Why are we here?
In February of 2007 long time gun writer Jim Zumbo posted his opinion of so called “assault weapons” on his blog. Zumbo stated his belief that such firearms were little more than terrorists weapons and wholly unsuited to any sporting purpose. Within hours his sponsors, editors and advertisers in the magazines he wrote for were deluged with emails decrying Zumbos stand and demanding action. Zumbo was soon humbled into making an apology and is still trying to right the wrong he did to Americas gun owners who saw the damage he did and recognized it affected more than just “assault weapons”.
As I watched these events unfold I witnessed the first successful, though unorganized and unplanned, gun rights battle involving the internet. I was amazed at the results and inspired to follow this fight up. At my “home” website we discussed it and many agreed that we should use the momentum of this battle to build on and that we should try and establish a website devoted to organizing all the various firearms related websites in the fight for gun rights. By having announcements posted at the ‘sites by Administrators or Moderators urging the membership to email, fax, write and call their elected officials, the media, industry and their family and friends a truly massive grassroots campaign could be waged. By making simple and quick to use links to politicians and providing form letters and other information the membership of the websites would have no excuse not to participate. There would be no phone calls or letters coming to their homes, no pleas for money, no distant organization that responded slowly to their concerns. It would be personal, simple, cheap and effective. But most importantly the politicians and media would for the first time get a real sense of the number of concerned gun owners who had the power to reach out and say “ENOUGH!!!”
So this website was established and many ‘sites Administrators and Moderators were contacted. Response was slow in coming, so the idea was posted in the public section of some boards. Replies started rolling in and the word spread. It soon became apparent that people were interested in the idea, but it was also seen that there were far more boards on the web than we had realized. Where it had been thought that there might be 50-60 sites and a few thousand people, we realized some boards had 20, 30, 40,000 members! We’ve only scratched the surface.
So here we are. Word is getting out, but not fast enough. We need to spread the word and get this organized and made more efficient. We need your help. Please look through our forums and offer suggestions. Pass the word to your friends, family, club members. Help us make this work.

How S.1959 Could Prohibit Gun-Ownership for Americans

S.1959 if passed, will create a powerful "government commission" that will "research, investigate and recommend in "reports" to the U.S. Government" how to prevent and preempt violence in America. Different cultures shall be investigated and studied by the "Commission." The "Commission" will determine which Americans, organizations and cultures are "Idealistically based toward Violence"; "Violent Radicalization" and "Homegrown Terrorism." The "Commission" will report on U.S. Citizens and groups that "could be thinking" about using terrorism. No doubt S.1959 will create an army of government informants.
It is foreseeable Government could use S.1959 "Commission Reports" to show that an individual or organization’s members were "idealistically based toward Violence" or supported Violent Radicalization as a reason to deny a Citizen their right to own a Firearm.
In the name of National Security—government can allege their "New Government Commission" has identified Citizens and organization members’ that should be prohibited from owning guns because they are "idealistically based toward Violence and "could" support "Violent Radicalization or Home Grown Terrorism." No doubt the "S.1959 Commission" will provide government with a large list of U.S. Citizens and immigrants. Government has called lawful anti war protestors potential terrorists and a threat to National Security.
S.1959 "The "Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act" when closely examined, vaguely defines "homegrown terrorism" as "any planned act" that could use force to coerce the U.S. Government or its people to promote or accomplish a "political or social objective." Actual force need not occur. Government need only allege that an individual or someone in a group thought about or mentioned using force.
Under the vague provisions of S.1959 labor demonstrators could be reported by the "Commission" to the Government for using "coercion" if demonstrators blocked or intimidate shoppers from entering a store. Should violence happen at an anti war or labor demonstration, lawful participants could be "reported" for supporting "Violent Radicalization."
S.1959 does not provide sufficient public oversight to ensure the "Commission" does not target innocent U.S. Citizens and organizations because they supported a lawful cause opposed by the U.S. Government. The vague word "facilitate" in S.1959 could be used by Government to add thousands of U.S. Citizens and activist organizations to no fly and other government watch lists: perhaps subsequently to no train lists and other forms of domestic transportation.
Joining or contributing money to an organization "reported" by the "new S.1959 Commission" as being ideologically based toward violence could get a lawful Citizen on a corporate or government no hire list.
After S.1959 is passed, it would appear unlikely in the short term—elected U.S. Representatives would want to risk his or her political career defending innocent Americans and organizations accused by the "commission" of being "Idealistically based toward Violence"; "Violent Radicalization"; or Homegrown Terrorism."

Getting our second wind
Sometimes reality hits you in the face with surprising force. When we started this venture I had no idea how frustrating it would become. Call it apathy, ego, fear of something new or blame it on my poor communication skills. For whatever reason I've had to step back, take a breath and re-evaluate how we're going about our quest to gain co-operation among the firearms related forums.
The gun control fight is an ongoing struggle against well funded and mostly well intentioned groups with professional staff and resources. Some are backed by billionaire types like George Soros and other like minded anti-gunners. We're a bit different here. This is a grassroots effort, has no budget and is dependant on volunteer participation from interested parties. Gauging what effect our intial campaign on HR1022 had has been very hard. There's no way to tell how many people responded to the requests for action beyond the hits at this site. Some of the websites I visited initally refused to allow me to make posts regarding the campaign. Since then some have relented and are allowing posts, other refuse any political posts at all. Hopefully, as this effort grows, long time members of those sites will be able to talk the owners into agreeing to act on this idea.
Our next step is to rejoin the fight as Congress returns to Washington. We plan to address multiple pieces of legislation over the next few weeks. However, without very active particpation by our members and visitors here, we won't have nearly the effect we could have. So I'm asking you to spread the word as the next campaign starts. The recent proposed OSHA ruling regarding small arms ammunition shows us again how effective we are when we make a coordinated effort to fight poor law. Lets build on that. Remind your friends of the effect we had on Jim Zumbo, of the OSHA ruling, of what we can do together to secure a basic right guarenteed in our Constitution.
We have plans in the works for more visible action. Your participation is vital. I'll admit I felt as though I was getting nowhere at times, but we can't lose this fight. Help us help you to win this long battle. People fought and died to give us this right, and to build this Nation. Lets not let their sacrifice be in vain.
